Nölken publishes its twelfth sustainability report for its anniversary year

With the publication of its 2022 Sustainability Report, Nölken has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability. The Windhagen-based company celebrated its 40th anniversary in the reporting year and shows that sustainable practices are an essential part of success.

Despite the significant challenges of the past fiscal year, the personal care products manufacturer has shown that sustainability is still an extremely important issue for business results and the company's survival. Nölken has proven that it can survive even under difficult conditions and achieved outstanding results in its sustainable corporate management in 2022.

„The lack of gas deliveries from Russia shows that we must become more independent of fossil fuels and externally purchased energy. Rising energy and raw material costs also make it clear how important it is, on the one hand, to reduce electricity and gas consumption and to increase the proportion of self-generated electricity from our PV systems, and on the other hand, to improve the efficiency of the raw materials we use. Only if we consistently continue on this path can we remain competitive,“ stated the management.

The sustainability report highlights that despite the significant challenges of the past year, Nölken has succeeded in expanding its commitment to sustainability. A key factor in this: sustainable energy supply.

Approximately 60 % of the energy demand is generated from renewable sources (solar, wind, hydro, biomass). In addition, the installed PV systems and combined heat and power (CHP) plants have already generated 9.6 % of the company’s own electricity needs. Two additional PV systems at the Windhagen and Nowogrodziec sites were connected to the grid in early 2023.

In addition, Nölken is gradually and voluntarily implementing the requirements of the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG for short), even though the company does not fall within its immediate scope of application.
