Our Focus Areas

Focus Field Products: Responsibility you can feel

Through the careful planning and implementation of the products – from raw material selection to formulation and consumer use – as well as close dialogue with our business partners, we create transparency for informed purchasing decisions. To communicate these product features even more effectively, we specifically train our sales force to objectively communicate product-related environmental aspects and thereby strengthen the market position of our ecologically optimized solutions.

Since 2025, we have been systematically analyzing the life cycles of our best-selling products in this regard, from formulation to disposal, and creating product life cycle assessments. We use these insights to provide our customers with targeted advice regarding ecological material alternatives, the optimization of material cycles, and the assurance of biodegradability according to international standards ISO 14040/14044.

In 2025, around 97.5 % of the fleece and cellulose materials we used came from certified sources according to the FSC or PEFC supply chain standards. This proportion applies across all corresponding product groups – from wet wipes and moist toilet paper to nursing pads.

As part of our procurement guidelines, we are committed to the socially and environmentally sound use of palm oil, palm kernel oil, and their derivatives. Our stated goal remains the complete sourcing of all palm (kernel) oil-based ingredients from certified sources, which we have stipulated in an internal working instruction. To actively promote more responsible cultivation methods, Nölken has been certified according to the RSPO supply chain standard since 2018 and is an active member of FONAP. While the RSPO standard provides the formal framework for certified palm (kernel) oil derivatives in Mass Balance quality (www.rspo.org/de/why-sustainable-palm-oil/), the additional FONAP commitments act as a decisive qualitative upgrade that goes beyond the mere minimum requirements. We use these criteria to close specific environmental and social gaps. In addition, we support smallholders in the cultivation regions through the FONAP project.
