Beehives stolen at Neustadt/Wied company site – police hope for leads
Between the years, from Christmas to New Year's Eve, unknown individuals stole three out of five beehives at the Neustadt/Wied company site of Nölken Hygiene Products GmbH.
Upon discovering the missing bees, another beehive was found already prepared for removal.
The beekeeper responsible for the Nölken company suspects other beekeepers are behind the act. It appears to be a common practice among unscrupulous beekeepers to steal foreign beehives with live bee colonies, as their own bees have died due to inadequate care. However, nothing more than suspicions can be made regarding this at the current time.
The Beekeeping Association Asbach and Surrounding Area – founded 1883 registered association – is also informed and hopes to contribute to the search for information through the network.
New beehives are to be set up
The beehives were insured, which is why they are optimistic about receiving reimbursement for at least a portion of the damages incurred. Nevertheless, the Straßenhaus police, according to their own press release, are asking witnesses for any possible information by calling 02634/9520 or via email: pistrassenhaus@polizei.rlp.de to report.
New bee colonies are to be installed as soon as possible for the benefit of the Nölken company employees.
As part of sustainability efforts, beehives were installed at the Neustadt/Wied company site in mid-2022, in cooperation with the Bummelbiene apiary from Oberlahr, as a measure to protect biodiversity. Not only nature has benefited from this measure recently, but also the employees of the Nölken company. The honey produced by the company's own honeybees was distributed to the staff as a Christmas gift.
